The International Transport Forum, policy drafting organization under the OECD, held a meeting in Leipzig which lasted until May 28. To combat climate change and ensure mobility for a growing population, each individual must reduce unnecessary trips, so the information provided to the global transportation policy makers.

"Just talking about low-emission vehicles is not enough. We must think of ways to avoid unnecessary transportation, "said German President, Horst Koehler. "Some of transportation should be avoided ... or we will not be able to prevent the continuous emission resulting from transportation." German Transport Minister, Peter Ramsauer, said that in addressing the growing traffic volume, the limitations of fuel oil, as well as issues relating with global warming, is necessary to find other ways to overcome this obstacle.

Some research has been done to prove that the transportation sector generates about a quarter of global carbon dioxide emissions.
