New research from the School of Mo indicates that Ocean Beach temperatures during the techniques that you are of the Later Cretaceous Epoch were motivated by flow in the heavy ocean. "We are looking at ocean conditions from several past techniques that you are periods so that we can fully grasp better the communications among the climate, the sea, the biosphere, and that you are," said Kenneth MacLeod, lecturer of geological sciences in the College of Arts and Technology. "The Later Cretaceous Epoch is a textbook example of a techniques that you are on earth, and we have information that a northern water large enhanced southwards while the that you are was cooling. As well, a heated, high sodium water large that had been present throughout the techniques period vanished from the tropical Ocean."
The research found that at the end of the Later Cretaceous techniques period, water going around Greenland was changed by surface water moving south from the South Ocean. This modify induced the North Ocean to heated while the rest of the planet chilled. The modify started about five thousand years before the asteroid impact that ended the Cretaceous Period.

To monitor flow styles, the scientists focused on "neodymium," an element that is taken up by seafood teeth and bones when a seafood passes away and drops to the ocean floor. MacLeod said the rate of two isotopes of neodymium functions as a natural following system for water people. In the spot where a water large forms, the water takes on a neodymium rate like that in rubble on nearby land. As the water techniques through the ocean, though, that rate changes little. "Understanding the degree to which that you are affects flow and the other way around is important today because co2 stages are rapidly nearing stages most recently seen during ancient techniques times," said MacLeod. "In just a few decades, people are causing changes in the structure of the climate that are as large as the changes that took millions of years to occur during geological that you are periods."
