China Ambitions For Solar Panel Plans

The United States reached 10 gigawatts of total installed solar panels last summer and at the end of 2013 slightly in the figure (official numbers have not release), China has also been very productive in 2013 related to solar panels. Base on source, China has put between 9.5 and 12 gigawatts of solar panels during the year 2013 alone (not the cumulative number). It is more than ever installed by any country in a single year, and it is also more than the cumulative total of all previous years in China! It was truly remarkable, and it's just the beginning: China plans to install 14 gigawatts in 2014.

The contrast with the other country for a long time been associated with solar power is Germany. During 2013, they only managed to add 3.3GW of solar capacity. Not bad, but not enough to be in a position of global solar panel leader.

China's performance is a good reminder that the estimates are not always be trusted. Back in 2010, China set a target of 5GW of solar by the years 2015.

One reason why solar power is growing so fast that prices have continued to fall, making it much more affordable than just a few years ago, and massively cheaper than a few decades ago.
