To achieve the objectives of national expansion and European renewable energy efficiency, building a network of northern coast of Europe is necessary. Instead of each individual offshore wind farm include offshore wind farms should be preferred the group has links with the mainland. Therefore, for the expansion of wind energy in North America and Baltic save about 14 million euros. This is one of the first results of a study presented in October in Brussels on an EU project Marine Network. The study at the end of this article can be ordered free of charge.
The study was commissioned by the European Union, led by 3E and in collaboration with the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) and the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA). The analysis provides decision makers in politics, economics and management recommendations for the establishment of a European sea.
As part of the European offshore grid has been made on the basis of a comprehensive technical and economic analysis, network design offshore. As well as political and economic conditions as well as technical and regulatory expertise has been considered. Focus on the analysis of 321 offshore wind farms. It shows that 114 of these wind turbines can be connected to collect the links. This allows the network to reduce costs and simplify the logistics functions. At the same time, a series of environmental measures, must be made during the laying of submarine cables protected coastal areas, can be reduced.
Other economic benefits can be realized by connecting wind farms to connect cables between the two countries, known as interconnects. To achieve the transnational offshore grid, it is important first and foremost, a complete set of new rules to create.
The project consortium consists of eight European institutions and companies: 3E, German Energy Agency (dena), the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the Norwegian Institute for Research Energy (SINTEF), the Polish Institute of Senergy Econnect Renewable Energy (IEO) and the Centre for Wind Energy (ForWind).
Dena is sponsored by seven national partners in the implementation of the project: Amprion, Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), ABB, Nexans Deutschland GmbH, Siemens AG, RWE Innogy GmbH, Vattenfall Europe Transmission GmbH
