California became the first state in the US that have laws prohibiting the use of plastic bags.

Use of plastic bags in supermarkets and grocery stores is a violation of the law.

This legislation aims to reduce the waste that damages the environment.

Bill signed by Governor Jerry Brown will take effect in July next year.

Manufacturer factory oppose this move and claimed that this would result in the loss of thousands of jobs and allow store owners profit from the cost of plastic bags.

"This bill is a step in the right direction for reducing plastic pollution at the beach, the park and the ocean," Brown said in a written statement.
